A quickie: Topaz is not a new format or encryption scheme, it’s a *different* format that Amazon uses for OLD books, for publishers that don’t want to make the effort to convert. It’s a pretty crappy scan/ocr format, too. Avoid it like the plague, regardless of DRM.

@eddFACE1 Note the specific use of “Kindle for PC.” There may be a Mac version of the software (I don’t own a Kindle), but perhaps the Mac version doesn’t function the same way.

What is the reason why you can’t run these Python scripts on a Mac? You can easily install Python, which I presume is all you need to run these scripts…

When I open unswindle.py, I get the error message “Error: Unsupported version of Kindle for PC”.
I just downloaded the Kindle for PC app today, 1/3/11. Any workaround?? Thanks.

on W-7 or XP can not find the python exec folder I drag the “torrent” over what I think, it jumps but does not open the Kindle for PC app, Help please

In Linux Ubuntu or Linux Mint, Mac , and Windows just use >> Calibre to convert any PDF , and almost a ebook to work on the Kindle … I use it in Linux Ubuntu for my wife’s Kindle …

@spastikman i know exactly how you feel man… i have an account on nooktalk.com and i cant read the books people send because there drm encrypted…. go figure and i have no way to fix it.. .. if you find a way let me know… again, i know EXACTLY how you feel I’ve ripped countless audio/video files from/for Microsoft and apple formats… but this… CRAZY

man, I’ve had to remove drm off apple audio/video, computer games, and all kinds of other stuff. Ironically, the hardest DRM to remove for me is a simple ebook DRM. crazy.
